When used I see runway models strutting around in elaborate and highly impractical clothing, I always wondered what the purpose was. At high-profile fashion shows, the vast majority of womens clothing that you see flaunted on the runway would never be worn in day-to-day life. My sister was flipping through a fashion magazine last week that featured some of these costume-like fashion styles, and I asked her what the appeal was.

She told me that most of the clothing that is introduced at these major fashion shows isn’t intended to be worn by the general public. Rather, the fashions that are on display are representative of current trends in the fashion industry and serve as a harbinger for what we will see on store shelves. When you look at this year’s hottest styles, chances are they will be reminiscent of something you’ve seen on the runway.
