History of the Polo Shirt
The term “polo shirt” has become synonymous with a collared shirt in many parts of the world. Although their name suggests that the shirts originated on the polo field, that isn’t the case. Tennis champion Rene Lacoste was actually the first to conceive the design that we have today.
He was tired of the thick, long-sleeved tennis shirts of his day, which led him to create a more lightweight and breathable model that has been adopted for several sports and casual wear as well. Most people think of polo shirts as being exclusively for men, but there are womens polo shirts as well.
